Smoky quartz cluster

This smoky quartz cluster is a real gem: it looks just like a small bouquet of flowers. A little host rock remains at the base. Because the pocket was very fresh, the cluster came away perfectly intact. The main point is crystal clear, and the other points are clear as well, with their tips lightly dusted with green chlorite.

The Story of This Crystal

We discovered this pocket in the summer. It was one of our best finds of the season: a beautiful, medium-sized pocket in amphibolite rock. A constriction in the rock and chlorite spilling out of the pocket clearly showed us where it was. Luckily, we were able to reach it. We climbed the steep glacier with crampons, and since the bergschrund was filled with boulders, we could make our way to the pocket. Next year, it will probably no longer be possible to get there.
